knowhen | EVENT ONE: JUNE 21ST-28TH

[ Okay, quick refresher on Newt's situation. They just cancelled the apocalypse. He's had a grand total of ... like, a handful of hours to come to terms with that. Not to mention he still looks like he was just involved in the apocalypse itself. Glasses broken, shirt bloody, jacket ripped, all that. Then, he's ripped from Earth and put on a space station. Oh, he also now has SUPER POWERS.

It's awesome overload. He's almost numb to the whole thing. Logic and reason tells him to go lock himself up in his bare little bunk and sleep it off to let other crazy people handle the fighting and the winning.

But there's a good chance that if he totally leaves this alone, doesn't help at least figure out what the situation is, he'll be the one in a test tube and dissected in the name of alien science. That numbness probably helped with this decision.

Well, when the going gets tough, Newt Geiszler mans the FUCK up. He's hiding behind something that looks solid enough. He's got no weapon and no idea how to fight these things. Really, how do you fight something that looks like it could get knocked down by a good breeze? How are they really a threat? A Hoover could probably take them out. ]

Hey!!

[ He yell-whispers to the nearest living thing that doesn't look like it's made of smoke. Whispering may not work. ]

HEY.

[She heard you the first time, Newt. She was just busy making sure the thing that's moving over there isn't moving towards them.]

Hey, yourself--

[Nita turns to look at him and blinks. Dude, you look like something the kraken dragged in.]

--You okay?

[The person asking is a beautiful blond woman in a bathing suit. She has Mr. Spock ears, which is clearly only fitting for being in space. She also has little white Mercury wings on her ankles, which is less thematically appropriate.]

[ All of that stuff is noticed right away. Are elves real? Vulcans? Brain, please, stop. There's a lot more important stuff to worry about right about now. ]

What?

[ You still look like crap, Newt. But that is also not very important right now. ]

Oh, yeah, fine. You got a spare weapon? I've avoided death once already today, wouldn't mind continuing.

[ Look, Spock, you kind of got an explanation anyway! Not fine, though. Very much not fine. Fineness has to wait for another shower and smoke to evaporate. ]

[True story, X-Men has crossed over with Star Trek.

Also elves are real.]

I don't really use weapons much.

[Nita wrinkles her nose. Not many weapons hit harder than her fists.]

Man, now that you mention it, I wish I'd grabbed one of the laser pistols off those gorillas earlier.

[She's taking a stab in the dark that Newt's a gun guy. He doesn't look like he should be charging in with a sword and shield, but, well, appearances can be deceptive.]

[ Not unless you count the Milking Machine or a scalpel as a weapon. Newt tries to take a look from his awful hiding spot and catch a better glimpse of these guys.

How are you supposed to take down something you can see through? Anyone got any fire? ]

[ Oh my god he should be in heaven right about now. He cannot wait for this threat to be over so he can run around this space station like a kid in a freakin' candy store. But, yeah, a burst of energy happens remotely near them and he ducks on reflex. Part of his mind is still thinking Kaiju Kaiju Kaiju I don't want to be eaten. ]

WHAT DO THESE GUYS EVEN WANT?

[ He's not yelling so much as sounding very screechy. Sorry, lady. It's just sort of his default voice. ]

Well, yeah. Pretty much no one out here uses bullets. They're kinda primitive.

[Also there's no blood when people get zapped with lasers, and that makes it easier to slip the comics past the censors.

Nita looks over at where the energy blast hit nowhere near Newt's head, then back at him.]

Uh, I'm no expert, but they probably want to take the Continuum Cortex. It might or might not be related to the Infinity Gems.

[It's okay, Newt, that would be gobbledygook even to most people from this universe.]

[ Man he wishes he had the time to freak out over this. He ducks reflexively from the blast, still trying to keep alive. Maybe if he keeps his eyes down to the ground every so often he can find a stray something.

Except what she says completely throws him for a loop. Extremely confused expression coming your way, Nita. ]

What?

[ Gems? He got the gist of that on his way in, sort of. Pardon him for not getting the rest of it to entirely sink in.

There's another blast close to them and man is the heat strong. ]

Wh-what are we gonna do?

[ It already looks like attacking isn't working. ]

It's complicated.

[Comic books are stupid.

Nita sighs.]

Look, we should probably get you back behind the lines a bit and let you catch your breath. You don't really strike me as the foot soldier type...plus I can explain some stuff.

[That is her nice way of saying "you are freaking out, dude." She, by contrast, isn't flinching unless a beam lands very close, and even then she looks more offended than frightened. Jeez, she is trying to have a conversation, here, do you mind?]

[ Complicated he can do, really. You don't even want to know how annoying it is dancing through red tape at universities. Or immigration at any country's borders.

He nods a few dozen times more than he should, eyes still on the monsters. ]

Okay... Okay.

[ He does need to take a breath. It's mostly been running. Definitely not a lot of fighting. Nita, you're gonna have to guide him on this one. He's still a little bit shaken on the whole experience. It's not for a lack of bravery, though. Just sort of... Processing. A whole mess of processing that needs to happen. Even the guys who seem like they do know how to fight are getting thrown on their asses. ]

[Sorry, Newt. Sass was ingrained in her genes, like some sort of programmed defect that made her impossible to deal with in a life or death situation. Maybe if she came with a muzzle?

But she'd taken refuge under the nearest something that looked like it could hide her pretty well, looking over at the hushed whisper and seeing a guy that looked like someone had beat the crap out of him, then washed their car with him, then beat the crap out of him again.]

Whoa, dude. You okay?

[ One day he's going to figure out a sassy come back for that in return. Today is not that day. He's too busy making sure that he's not going to die... Again. ]

Yeah, fine.

[ And he so doesn't have time to explain because THERE ARE EXPLOSIONS GOING ON HERE. ]

[ He doesn't even have his phone. Of course he had to leave it on his desk by accident. Not that it would do anything but y'know. Projectile. Or something. ]

[A weapon. Yeah, right. Okay. She had that. Sort of. She hauled her back to her and began to rifle through it, pausing to look up at him in consideration.]

Are you able to point a can of mace away from your face? Because if not, I'm sure as hell not giving you that or the taser.

[ BLESS YOU KIND STRANGER. You can almost see the infinite relief on his face. ]

Look, you give me anything and I promise I will effectively use it to keep these bastards away from me.

[She got the mace out and rolled it across the floor to him.]

Remember, point the hole away from your face. I'm not responsible for any mace related incidents. Capiche?

[ Newt is quick to grab it. Or at least, he tries to grab it. His glasses are still broken so he almost misses it the first time. BUT-- got it. And more breaths of relief. Look, it's not much to mace some wisps of smoke. It's better than being totally defenseless. ]

Capiche. [ He smiles widely at her, holding up the can with the hole pointed away. Don't worry. Finger is not on the button. ] I owe you one.

[ With that said, Newt's going to go back to looking for a way to see about attacking these guys. From behind maybe? Whatever types of eyes they have, maybe mace will throw off their groove. He rushes out, away from Veronica. Catch them by surprise from the back.

.... Except that doesn't work. That super doesn't work. Newt is thrown back with a lot of yelling and cursing and oh so much pain. ]

[No, of course he wouldn't wait. He owned a dick and a pair of balls and therefore was incapable of thinking things through, or this is what she told herself as she crawled out to go over to him, eyes on their attackers.]

That was your big plan? Rush at them and scream and hope that what? The pitch sent them fleeing for their lives? New plan; don't do that again.

[ He tries talking and oh hey! It actually kinda works. He winces a few times as he sits up though. ]

Didn't scream until after they... [ ow. ] Fucking blasted me.

[ Which all that anger is directed towards them, not you, kind and awesome stranger with ineffective weapons. ]

[ the teen shoots an annoyed look back, having been observing their enemies from a distance himself. sorry newt, he'd rather not have any extra attention drawn towards them and the not-quite-a-whisper thing isn't helping. nico takes a look at the aliens again to make sure they aren't going to start attacking -- although he's got a hand on his sword just in case they do -- before whispering back. ]

[ Look, kid, you've got a SWORD. You actually have something that you can use in defense against these guys. He gets trying to be stealthy but there's a whole lot of chaos and he does not want to die. ]

Got anything else I could use?

[ He asks while nodding at the sword. ]

[ newt just gets an incredulous look from the teen because does he look like he carries around pocketfuls of swords? even if he did, they weren't exactly weapons made to be wielded by mortals and he's not sure how the gods would feel if he was just going to had a gladius over to some unsuspecting person. ]

No. I didn't exactly come prepared for battle.

[ says the kid with the sword on him. ]

[ Wonderful you pointed that out, Mr Narration, because Newt has exactly this to say about the whole situation. Complete with a totally offended and confused look and hands pointing at the damn thing. ]

YOU HAVE A SWORD.

[ Now that, unfortunately, was yelling. You can't say you're not prepared for battle when you are totally prepared for battle. ]

[ well, shit. you can just see the realization dawning on his face ( especially in that none too subtle glance towards his own sword ), when he realizes that the mist doesn't exist in this place and that the mortal man in front of him isn't seeing like a stick, or a water-gun, or whatever else weird disguise was made up by the mist — which makes this conversation worse as a whole.

but before he can explain or come up with something, it looks like newt's yelling has attracted the attention of some nearby aliens, who also notice that nico has a sword. and promptly take it as a sign of impending attack. ( well, they're not wrong about that. ) ]

Get out of the way!

[ or he's going to have to angrily make newt run before he gets hurt. time to put that sword to use. ]

[Oh, Newt. Don't you know the apocalypse is always just around the corner out here? Seriously, if alien empires aren't duking it out over strange racial grudges and ancient territorial issues somebody's trying to eat a planet or just blow up a planet or blow up the universe or-

It's not that cool, is what Peter would say, and he remembers the days when he totally just toured the galaxy looking for the next big adventure like, and how badly it turned out across the board for everyone.

Also that is the least subtle yell-whispering ever.]

[This is a lie. Peter has no idea what to do, and that doesn't happen like, ever. Except to keep his mask on and hope that that's enough to seal off his airways in case those things can get inside.

It's sad that that seems like a distinct possibility. The hell are his telepaths and magic-users when he needs them?]

[ In his defense, his own apocalypse had officially been returned to sender. To come back straight away to one when it's not the status quo? Yeah, anyone else would be reacting this way or worse, he thinks.

Hey, hey. He tried. Given that this is a guy who usually speaks loud enough for someone across country to hear him, that was pretty good. ]

I'm totally defenseless here!

[ It's more a plea than anything. He wouldn't be bugging anyone if not for the fact that he's probably going to die. Why is he here again? ]

[It's not that he's not sympathetic. It's just that he doesn't know what the hell's going on, and it's not the normal type of "what the hell is going on" where it's just that the situation escalated from something recognizable.]

I can see that. You should get down, by the way.

[It's a move straight out of an action film, or a comic book, when he abruptly stands up and empties both barrels straight into an oncoming patrol, and then drops right back down for cover again.]

Seriously, you're not carrying anything? I mean yeah, it's technically an intergalactic waystation and haven, but that doesn't mean you're never going to see action. Although I have no idea who the hell these guys are, that's new.
