[The shout had startled him; he hadn't realized she would hear the shot. Robbie is getting to his feet when she asks him if everything's okay. He looks past her, down the hall that she had been clearing, to make sure that she isn't being chased by anything. Nothing.]
Yeah, everything's fine. I was seeing if it still worked.
no subject
Well, anyway, the hallway in that direction ends with a drop off. Looks like about three stories down to the next level, so we're in good shape.
[Tiny mutant ankle wings, kinetic field--they're not trapped. Nita settles back to the floor on bare feet that somehow never seem to get dirty. Maybe it's an Atlantean thing.]
no subject
Works for me. You want to get some sleep, or do you want to figure out what we're going to do with that?
[Robbie jerks his head in the direction of the Observation Deck. He won't say it aloud, but he's running on fumes nearly. The thought of storming a room full of deeply entrenched aliens would be daunting if he hadn't been up for days and knew about them. Without knowing why they're attacking the station or anything else about them, it's screaming recipe for disaster at him.]
no subject
I don't think we're gonna be able to take those things on our own. They're so good at predicting attacks that we're probably going to need to hit them with so much at once they can't dodge.
[Nita loves team-ups, but she's really not at her perky best right now, and she hasn't seen any of the people she'd spoken to earlier. Sailor Pluto could be a big help, she bets.
Ugh. Knowhere is too big and too confusing.]
You should get some sleep. I'll be okay for a while longer.
[Sub-Mariner stamina and all...even if the lack of water isn't helping with that.]
no subject
We're probably not, yeah. [Dying trying is not an option for her, to him, so he leaves it at that. He's not entirely comfortable with any of the alternatives that he can come up with anyway. They all seem to involving leveling the entire room at once.
Her plan means they need a lot more people, which could be a problem.] If there're any other Warriors here, old or new, I haven't found them. Just a babe who'd never heard of the Avengers.
[Robbie isn't scoffing; he's simply still surprised by this radical departure in Earths. He can't help but wonder what happened to them, in Veronica's world.]
I'm good. You're going to need time to get used to crashing on the floor, unless you want to find your quarters. You first.
no subject
[She folds her arms, preparing for an argument.]
no subject
I'm not tired enough to pass out on the floor. I know how tired I have to be, and I'm not. There yet. This place is freaking me out, and I won't be able to sleep anyway.
Just go to bed, princess.
no subject
Are you serious? You're human, Robbie. You shouldn't be going this long without sleep.
[She doesn't mean to be insulting. It's just the truth! Ignore the fact that she really shouldn't be going without sleep, either. But she can bounce back faster.
Assuming there's water anywhere.]
no subject
Not human. Technically speaking, if I was completely human, the High Evolutionary's death ray - er, ray of terrible pain, as it turned out, wouldn't have worked on me.
[He raises his eyebrows and ducks his head a little, when he flips her argument back around at her.]
You're half-human. Since the other half isn't shark, you can't survive on microsleep either.
[Robbie likes the Discovery Channel. Shark Week should be a national holiday.]
no subject
The High Evolutionary built a death ray? And used it on you?
[NOT COOL, HERBERT]
no subject
On the - on the team.
[He almost said on the New Warriors, but he can't do that. He can't tell her how they've replaced her with an identical Atlantean and... everything.
Also how come she gets to be on a first name basis with the H.E.?]
It didn't work. Iiiii guess it actually did, until Sun Girl blew it up.
no subject
So same as always, huh.
[Being in danger is pretty much Nita's entire life. She's very lucky she's basically immune to anything less than getting hit by a speeding tractor trailer.]
no subject
[He's amiable enough about it. When aren't they up to their eyeballs in chaos?]
I'm glad you're here. I'd've thrown myself into a trash chute by now.
[Which means 'I'm glad you're alive. I want to give you the biggest hug ever, but I'm afraid you'll turn out to be a hologram.]
no subject
[The reference bounces around Nita's head for a moment, in search of something to connect to.]
--Star Wars!
[There we go.]
...I'm sorry you're stuck on Knowhere, Robbie.
[It's not like she has anywhere to go, but Robbie hasn't lost years and now he's trapped in another universe.]
no subject
Me? I'm sorry you're here. Do you have any idea how many people are going to lose their minds when they find out you're alive? You're - shit, Nita. I get not wanting to tell the world you're alive… people are going to be happy to see you.
no subject
I wasn't hiding--well, maybe a little--but I'd only been back on Earth for...a day? two days? And it's hasn't even been two weeks since--the war ended.
[She was going to say "since Rich died," but she is doing her level best not to think about that.]
Robbie--Rider--and Pegasus people only just told me about...everything.
no subject
I hope they sat you down and gave you a beer first. Maybe spiked it with Xanax.
[See, nice and light. Could be anything they're talking about.]
You know you're wasting valuable sleep time.
no subject
Project Pegasus. Quasar gave us a ride back from Hala.
[In retrospect, she thinks it might have been a better idea to stay in Attilan with the Inhumans, but too late now.
And if Robbie isn't going to talk about anything, fine. She doesn't want to have a fight over anything serious with the person who might be her only friend in the universe.]
Nothing you say is gonna change the fact I've got more stamina than you.
no subject
[He shifts a little, getting comfortable and leaning back against the wall. ]
How do you want to use the time? You want to know how the last few World Series went? I've been watching a lot of rugby lately. Ever see any?
no subject
[Nita drops to the floor cross-legged, fingers of one hand idly playing with the feathers on the little wing sprouting so improbably from her ankle.]
I don't...suppose you know what happened to Atlantis?
[It blew up (Namor did it, but that's not common knowledge) the Atlanteans scattered to become sleeper cells on the surface, causing all kinds of headaches (which Robbie probably does know) and then started building New Atlantis under Utopia when Namor joined the X-Men.
Also Nita's mom's back from the dead. He might get around to mentioning that eventually.]
no subject
Atlantis - isn't in the best shape.
[Robbie doesn't know the full extent of it , but he reads the newspaper now, since his time in the Thunderbolts. He's got a good grasp on what the public knows, plus a few bonus tidbits, but he's hamstrung by not wanting to be the bearer of bad news. ]
There was that thing with the spies. Norman Osborn shot an ambassador. Lemuria was attacked by Evolutionaries. I - sorry, Nita.
no subject
It's not like we've had it easy since before Namor was born, at least.
[Atlantis gets destroyed more often than New York City.]
I just--it's at least partly my responsibility. I should be there to help.
[Never mind the fact there's no evidence at all she actually likes Atlantis or Lemuria. She has a duty.]
no subject
You didn't have the half-man, half-robot things trying to wipe you off the face of the Earth - er, the bed of the sea because you're impure. That's new.
And Nita, it's not just your responsibility. Some of its your mom's. Although Faira's on that quest to find you - huh. I guess she's right about not being you. I mean, she said someone sense your presence, and you said you're back. So there's that.
[He huffs out a breath and puts his head down a little. It's finally starting to hit him now, that this means Nita's actually alive. At home. Faira's not an amnesiac Namorita. He should probably apologize to her. Nita's alive. Don't cry. It's okay. This is great. Don't cry over something stupid like good news.
Robbie keeps his head down, but goes back to being gently grumbly.]
The New Warriora just landed Mount Wungadore in the middle of New York Harbor. You're not the only one here who's missing stuff.
no subject
[Nita's over it, really, or as over it as you can be when you watched your mother be murdered in front of you.
So yeah, she doesn't talk about it much.]
no subject
Yeah but... Faira said your mom sent her or something like that. She's your mom's servant. Faira sar Namora. Ringing any bells here?
