[How was it possible for a giant robot to remind her of a puppy? No idea. Maybe she'd been hit on the head.]

Um, it means Veronica Mars? Sorry, buddy, but we don't exactly come with explanations.

More than a little, buddy. I'm kind of finding the whole concept of being in space weird, let alone in a space station talking to a robot. Named Wing.

No, no. It's not the name. It's the whole... [She just sort of gestured at him, hand meant to take in all of him.] talking robot thing. Not really something I'm used to. Bear with me.

Um, yeah? I'm not exactly NASA's first choice for astronaut status. I get sick on fast rides, so...

A lot of this is new to me, too. Like...uh, whatever you are.

[Inner wince, because that probably sounded rude. ]

Oh? That's a shame. I guess I can't take you flying, then?

Whatever I am? Buddy, I'm human. You know, from Earth?

[Sure, that didn't sound even the slightest bit like a conceited bit of outrage. It reminded her of the many, many times she'd heard 'don't you know who I am?' Great. She was the galactic rich boy. Kill her now.]

Earth? Is that what you are? An earth?

[Forgive him: he's trying.]

Would I kid about something like that?

[He likes a joke, but he'd never lie about flying. It's slowly sinking in to him that he's going to be able to maybe fly here. ]

[Wow. Guess she was like that neighbor that everyone gave the stinkeye too because of the dismantled truck on the front yard. Rude, aliens.]

Earthling. Got it.

[Sounds a little nicer than 'earth', really. It sounds almost cute.]

[Others of his kind have been to Earth, just not his band of knights. And he's feeling terribly parochial because of it right now. ]


I...I wouldn't? [Not a master of joking with aliens, apparently, is Wing.]

[Anything but 'cute', Wing. She's tiny and blonde. Cute is a misnomer she hears constantly.]

No? Well then. We've settled that.

[They hadn't settled squat, but there were more pressing issues than future flying lessons. Like what the hell they were doing there in the first place.]

So....this is very different from your life on Earth, then?

[It is, but only when said by members of her family or anyone with enough Veronica Points to get away with saying it. To her face.]

... You could say that. I guess if this is real, I shouldn't expect everyone to just know what Earth is like, huh?

It feels pretty real to me. And I'm pretty sure i couldn't dream up something like you or this Earth of yours.

No? I don't know, Earth's pretty mundane as far as interesting things go. Now, a planet full of robots...

Well, they say it's transfat free, but I still leave smears on things after eating chips.
